M: We made leprechaun traps at school today.
Me: That sounds fun.
M: Could we make a leprechaun trap at home?
Me: Sure, of course.
M: Great. We could tear up some yellow paper and pretend it was gold.
Me: Sounds good.
M: And we should put a mirror in it.
M: Yeah. A mirror is the one thing that makes a leprechaun lose his power.
Me: Leprechauns have powers?
M: Oh yeah.
Me: What kind of powers?
M: You know. Magic.
And we wonder why the public school system is failing, when this is what my child comes home with about St. Patrick’s Day.
